COUNTING BACKWARDS

Relaxing in the balcony suddenly I hear slow counting scores

Five ....four .....three ....two .....and then abruptly no more ?

Oh ! It's a mature lady's voice ,certainly not of a small kid on the run

I wonder what happened .....why does she not say number one?

My imagination takes a dive what was she counting loud there ?

Eggs for breakfast or croissants or were they ripe juicy pears ?

Or may be practicing reverse counting for an Olympiad fare ?

What ever it be it certainly intrigued me this seemed quite rare !

Up the rickety stairs I run to poke my nose into her homeland

Cling cling I ring the bell introducing myself with folded hands

She had just uttered ....four ......eying me she counted no more

Instead sternly looked at her kids gesturing them out of the door !

Hey ! It was then that I realized ,this is a countdown to obedience device

a superb nonviolent way of disciplining kids to good sense positive vibes,

Before ONE is said the kid must do what has been expressed

This certainly saves him from being physically hurt and spanked

for violent disciplining surely needs to be absolutely outranked !

On exiting I hear " That aunty's visit saved you dear

now give your sis back that toy I hate to ever spank you my boy"

She starts counting now again five ..four ..three ...two ..and so

lo and behold ! the counting game begins once more !!!

At the count of two ..she sighs! and takes a big big pause

for she does not ever want to hit her kids for any cause

The kids shiver like mad just before the dreaded " one" is said

they willingly scamper to abide to their mums request with pride !!!

Back it was the rod that ruled the roost to discipline kids in

Counting forward beats was then in fashion in frenzied fits

Thanks to this evolved mum's superb mathematical acumen

counting backward seems a more sensible way of disciplining !

Dear friends ,

"Spare the rod and spoil the child " is an age old impression

How much do you believe in this violence favored expression !!!

Please do share why it's the power of love and not the power of rod

which needs to be practiced to discipline the blossoming tiny tots !!!
