THINGS THAT MAKE ME SMILE

I smile  a mile ,so very very  much ,

 On receiving a tender hug or a  loving touch.

Smiling is the secret of my  love for life,

Smiling is infectious , it spreads far and wide .

Late sunday morning coiled ,snug in bed ,

Smiled to myself ,hid my face in my  blanket spread 

Smiled and laughed in my warm bubble bath ,

Oh so relaxed and happy ,I skipped on my path .

Smiled  at the golden beaming sun ray,

It kissed my cheeks in mischief and play .

Smiled  at the swiftly passing breeze ,

For the music in my ears it rang with ease.

Smiled  listening to the pouring rain ,

Its   rhythmic  pitter  pater drove me insane ,

Smiled at the  lofty waves  in the sea ,

They were dancing up and down with great glee.

Smiled at spotting my lost friend ,

In the long bus queue right at its  end .

Couldn't stop smiling at the pretty little girl ,.

Blowing bubble gum ,forming a bubbly  pearl .

Smiled on hearing my favorite song ,

 kept on  swaying and humming  along .

Laughed  at my smiling mirror image .

Rejoicing ,it did not reveal my age .

Smiled at my favorite chocolate milk shake ,

Smiled even more  on getting the tasty plum cake .

Swinging on the swing put a smile on my face.

With my hair flying  high  tied up with a pretty lace .

Smiled at the loving old couple on their morning walk ,

It was returned instantly , garnished with sweet talk .

A smile on your face ,never goes waste,

It brightens your day ,comes back to you in haste .

Oh I have a thousand and one reasons to smile ,

I t  never leaves my face even for a while ,

A never ending smile is a part of my lifestyle ,

Thank you God  for  this cherished  gift .

Its presence  in my life is an energetic lift .

OUR RAINBOW

He was the  sunlight of my life ,

I was the raindrop  that he liked ,

To create a rainbow in our life ,

 We loved ,shared and strived,

The  reaction of refraction and reflection ,

Between the raindrop and the sunlight ,

Resulted in a charming magical creation ,

A colorful rainbow ,to our  hearts delight 

The seven colors  we are enjoying ,

Were bestowed on us one by one ,

Good lord ,thank you for this generous giving ,

Life with them is full  of happiness and fun .

Red ,our son  was  Divines  first  gift ,

 He is the pumping  heart beat of our life ,

Orange ,our second son  gave our life another lift ,

He is  our oxygen to live , breathe and strive 

Our sons then brought home their wife's ,

Gifted  us , beloved daughters for life . 

Yellow and Green , they are perfect by all means ,

Spreading love and concern ,

Our house now has its radiant queens .

Blue ,our  dear grandson  followed  next ,

Arrival  of this prince was  Almighty's  great blessings,

He ushered in the arrival   of two  lovely prospects ,

Our  grand daughters ,indigo and violet  were now in ,

Our beautiful princesses, so lively and refreshing .

Thus our family's  colorful rainbow was complete ,

Red,orange ,yellow ,green ,blue ,indigo and violet ,

Never ever will they  become obsolete ,

Our  precious jewels  moulded in a  single set .

The sunlight of my life ,is now resting peacefully in the sky ,

We feel his eternal love in the divine rays touching us .

He is the  brightest shining star above the sky so high ,

Dear God We know he is happy with your loving caress.

Rainbow is a symbol of harmony and peace ,

It's  beauty is  cherished and admired by one and all,

Thank you God for blessing us with such ease ,

Teaching  us to love ,care and share with all ,big or small ,

 Guiding  us to remain at each others beck and call .

God blessed  us with 2sons ,who brought  our 2 daughter in laws home . They then gave us the pleasure of playing with 3 grand children  thus completing the 7 colors of the rainbow  in our life 

MY LOVE ,MY DREAM

We roamed far away near the   slanting foot hills ,

It was twilight , In the green valley  down below ,

Walking hand in hand we sensed many a thrills ,

We heard the birds chirp ,saw the glow worms glow.

The lofty  green mountains all around ,

Were kissing the clear blue sky above ,

A huge rock  was leaning lovingly towards the ground ,

The bells in the air were ringing pure eternal love .

The silver oak and pine were dancing in the breeze ,

A huge  pond  below was brimming with lotus flowers ,

The White  ducks were swimming  with  utmost ease ,

We sat on the water edge ,admiring  all for hours .

I spotted a  rustic cottage  in the enchanting valley ,

It  looked just the same as I had seen  in my dream ,

I yearned to stay  in it  with my love  till eternity ,

Suddenly my love bowed on bended knees  ,

He gently held my hand  and whispered in my ears ,

"Will you marry me?"

"I want to spend my life  with you in my lovely cottage that you see "

My breath nearly stopped ,my heart was beating  fast!

I  smiled  and nodded , he kissed my hand at last !!

 And said ,

"My love  we will share our dream cottage  and our hearts !!!"

" Promise  me  my love  we will never ever part  " 

  He led  me by surprise into my love paradise !!!!

A COLD CHRISTMAS MORNING

The cold and fog are at their peak on this lovely Christmas Day,

The dense fog all around has covered the virgin earth with a veil,

Clad in woolens ,gloves and cap  I am on my way,

The fog is thick ,I just cannot see  my walking trail.

My breath  is a dancing white wave  on each exhale .

In this shivering  cold foggy morning ,

The air is icy cold and wet ,

The speeding cars have got a warning ,

 Poor visibility is a threat ,

Slowing down  they advice is the safest bet.

Trees look  clean and freshly bathed with the morning mist ,

Flowers covered with pearly dew drops are smiling  away ,

They  all look fresh and happy as if they have just been kissed ,

Their charming beauty   is on display on this special day .

 Dressed  up  in their best  they join us to sing and pray .

On my way to the church ,I trod along  today ,

My heart singing glory and praise to the savior of mankind ,

 Our Good lord Jesus Christ on his happy birthday ,

I pray for peace ,hope , love and a happy state of mind ,

 Darkness goes and gives way to a shining light behind .

THE SEA AND ME

On my trip to Mauritius,

The  adventures at sea were  calling me to play ,

I was longing to listen to what they had to say,

 I indulged in the escapades shedding my fears at bay .

The banana boat ride we took in threes,

Harnessed well and reclining with ease .

In great speed it swayed me to and fro,

Exhilarating fun,fast and on the go,

I shrieked and shouted  ,slow, please go slow ,

The sudden turns nearly threw me into the deep sea ,

That was the time I prayed ,God be with me .

My chance to fly as a bird I just could not miss,

Parasailing solo above the vast waters with wind around to kiss,

The strong sea breeze carried me mighty high ,defying gravity,

A daring  ,dynamic ,adrenaline rushed unforgettable activity .

Thrilling and breathtaking was the vast ocean from above ,

With joy in my heart and a song on my lips ,

I swung my feet in the sky and waved  with cheer and love .

The most amazing was the under sea walk ,

Big and small fishes for company to embrace and talk .

With heavy safety helmets to provide oxygen below ,

I was lowered  into the deep sea bed  sandy floor,

The  soothing sight around was a completely new world ,

There were corals amidst many seaweeds  all curled ,

I fed the golden  fishes and touched the  beautiful coral reef,

Oh my God ,here I felt as weightless as a dried leaf .

The deep mystery of the sea was further unveiled ,

When a dream underwater ride in a real submarine I availed .

At a depth of  35 meters under the sea ,

I stared into the crystal clear Indian ocean water with great glee,

I discovered the rich deep sea marine life of fishes ,

Seeing the sprawling exotic corals  fulfilled my wishes .

My joy knew no bounds when the captain on board,

Invited me to steer the underwater ship  as my reward .

I wondered at the beautiful and  amazing life I saw,

I will never forget all that I admired with great awe !!

The life under sea is incredibly diverse and wow , so aha !!!

A PLEDGE

   

Late  in the evening ,

Sitting in the garden ,

Dreaming  and  introspecting.

Talking to my self.

Disturbed  by a gentle voice,

Coming from the beautiful date tree by my side .

Tall and stately  laden with dates,

Some still yellow , 

Some turning  mellow,

Spreading its lovely leaves up so high ,

As if trying to kiss the sky.

It was a pleasant surprise ,

To hear its sweet voice.

It said to me,you sit by my side daily,

I know  you thoroughly,

Today listen to my story closely.

I am 20 years old ,over the years ,

I have seen heat , sand and gold.

Whatever be the weather,

I  have always stood straight .

Till I am alive I will give shade and sweet fruits,

After my death my body and roots,

Will become roofs,boats,baskets and ropes,

Giving many of you good life and many hopes.

God has blessed me to serve you in life and death.

Now I pondered in my heart !

The lovely lesson that it taught.

I prayed to God,

God give me the  same strength ,

Till I am alive ,

To serve and love all,

And never  to bend  and  fall .

On my death,

 Donate my  body parts to friends in need

A lovely golden gesture indeed.

Friends let us all pledge to do the same ,

Our  life after death will continue to be a lighted flame .

     

           

    

THE BANYAN TREE

This is the biggest Banyan tree in the world in the botanical gardens of Kolkata  

Under the shade of the banyan tree ,

The children play merrily ,

They run around  it round and round ,

Some times falling on the soft ground .

Under the shade of the banyan tree ,

The village belles have a melee ,

They gossip about everything under the sun ,

 Even reveal secrets of their loved ones .

Under the shade of the banyan tree ,

Teenage boys  indulge in unpleasant yippee ,

Smoking ,drinking  and gambling  spree ,

Whiling away their precious time  for free .

Under the shade of the banyan tree,

Many a lovers meet clandestinely ,

Exciting  romance blossoms here ,

They  whisper ,tease and laugh to endear 

Under the shade of the banyan tree ,

Many elders meet to agree and disagree ,

On issues relating to their family ,

On problems affecting life in the community .

Under the shade of the banyan tree ,

Hanging thick aerial roots , so  many we see ,

Some indistinguishable from the original trunk of the tree,

Children swing  to and fro , holding them  with great glee .

Under the shade of the banyan tree ,

The  lake  water  reflection  , we foresee ,

Roots upward and  the branches  down ,

Resembling the material world around ,

An illusion of reality !!

Under  the shade of the banyan tree ,

Lord Buddha attained  enlightenment to be worldly free ,
Lord Krishna found his resting place on its leaf,

The banyan tree is sacred , this is a spiritual belief .

          The banyan tree is the national tree of India. The tree grows by placing its branches down.The tree's seeds germinate in cracks and crevices of the host tree, sending branches everywhere around it, called aerial prop roots. 

          It is the perfect symbol for  ancient Indian families which also grew like the banyan trees,where the children stayed with the parents, married and brought their spouses home to have children who grew up and married and added to the family "compound ".

          This system however  is very rarely seen now  with children now living as  nuclear family units .

  

THE SNOW MOUNTAINS AND THE LAKE

The  beautiful  ,mighty majestic snowy mountains ,

Standing tall and stately ,amidst  natural fountains ,

Like large white enchanting  fairies  ,far away ,

Kissing the blue sky  and chanting to pray.

The path to the top is as narrow as can be ,

The  lofty icy summit  , mesmerizes  me,

Breathtaking and  radiant ,during this sun rise ,

 I  just cannot lift my eyes ,away from the skies .

The surrounding  lush green pine trees  ,

Are swaying  merrily , in the cool  morning breeze ,

Dancing to the music , coming from above !

Praising the Divine, for his abundant love!!

The clear large  lake , is embracing them all ,

Reflecting their glory  ,I sigh and appall !

The shadows in the water seem to shake ,

Telling  the cold mountains its time to awake .

The encircling green valley has a story to tell ,

What could it be , my mind  just dwells ,

Sailing solo  in the boat  I admire this creation ,

Singing glory to God  ,sensing  a pleasant vibration !!

ON THE BEACH

The beach was empty with no one around,
I unknotted my long hair waist down ,

Sandals  removed and flung faraway ,

The  right  time  to sway and feel gay .

I ran  and danced with sand on my feet ,

 Myriad of waves  went by to meet and greet,

The  cool sea breeze   blowed hard on my face

The sand  was drifted and got displaced .

My long white skirt was blown up and away ,

I felt  a magic in my heart, I  knew i had gone astray ,

My hair  locks  fell on my  deep blue eyes ,

My  soul was  stirred ,dancing on high rise .

I felt light as a feather blown by a strong gale,

 My  body and mind were ready to sail.

.My joy  and ecstasy had touched the sky ,

Unaware   of the crowds collected  nearby .

 Surprised  by the stares i felt around ,

My shy eyes  were now fixed to the ground .

I suddenly  stopped  my  harmonious race,

 On feeling the hug of a little child  in tight embrace .

I now lifted my face up in great pride ,

God  i knew this was you by my side ,

Bestowing your love and affection on me 

I Looked towards the vast ocean of love in the sea .

WHY AM I FEELING SO NICE TODAY?

Why am I feeling so nice today?

Got up at dawn with a song on my lips,

Blessed by the early morning sun ray,

I danced  and danced swinging my hips.

Why am I feeling so nice today ?

I smiled and laughed  without any reason ,

My mind was full of mischief and play

Oh my God ,what a silly season .

Why am I feeling so nice today?

Splashed my feet in the rain water puddles,

 Enjoyed the  muddy water  splay and spray,

Rejoiced with children standing in huddles.

Why am I feeling so nice today ?

Gifted myself with jewels and pearls,

Stared at the mirror feeling happy and gay,

Twisted my lips and played with my curls .

Why am I feeling so nice today?

Abandoned my car and rode my bike,

Rode into the woods and went astray,

Adventure was in , work was out ,loved my hike.

Why am I feeling so nice today?

Want to love  myself  more than a dozen score ,

Hunger and thirst seem far away ,

All I want to do is  what I never did before.

Why am I feeling so nice today ?

Bliss and joy are overflowing in my heart ,

Good lord ,thank you  for this happiness ,I pray.

I know Dear God  you are within me , never to part .
