THE SILLY GPS

A week end holiday in the
Mountains  we proposed ,
The roads were  bad , curvy
And confusing we were told,
Happily  armed with a smartphone
With GPS to guide us,
With  full confidence and trust
We set out to be adventurous .

The screen displayed sleek maps
With such  colorful clarity,
Her smooth voice spoke
With such confidence and authority,
She seemed to be demanding
Full  obedience  and perfection,
If you missed an exit she coldly
Reprimanded   you for your in attention.

"Turn around ","you are off the track",
Reminding  you of your incompetence,
Obeying her ,we reached blind alleys
And merged roads ,this made no sense .
Our destination was down south,
She  said , "drive 4 miles north and then  do a u turn"!!!
Following  our instincts would have saved
Time  ,toll  tax money  and worried concern.

Blindly following the electronic madness,
We drove  the same roads round and round,
We wish we had browsed the paper atlas,
And  paid attention to the  road signs around ,
GPS seemed  to have made us pretty dumb,
We felt  as miserable as a little lost puppy,
Totally stupefied, confused ,angry and numb ,
This  was in no way to be smart and yuppie!!

Misguided by the GPS ,we nearly
 Drove  down the  mountain edge,
Once we just missed driving clearly
Into the dense forest full of thorny hedge,
It even misguided us to a  rustic farm cottage
An old couple welcomed us ,making us feel great,
God knows when the GPS data was updated !!!
Obviously  what we followed was out of date.!

Remembering our trip , we laugh , joke and elate
For letting the silly GPS   decide our holiday fate .

Foot notes:-
The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a satellite-based navigation system made up of a network of 24 satellites placed into orbit by the U.S. Department of Defense. GPS was originally intended for military applications, but in the 1980s, the government made the system available for civilian use. GPS works in any weather conditions, anywhere in the world, 24 hours a day. There are no subscription fees or setup charges to use GPS.
Being misguided by the GPS if not updated for the area can be very  distressing
It doesn’t matter how accurate and simple the directions, It doesn’t matter how crisp and colorful the map is on the screen. It doesn’t even matter how attractive the announcer’s accent is. I hate GPS systems when they misguide you with such authority .
